Wind turbine design enhances science education

Challenge

USD 501 School District in Topeka, Kansas, wanted to enhance the science education experience for its students.

Solution

Bartlett & West designed a fully-functioning, 100 kW wind turbine adjacent to the Evergy substation located in the Kanza Education and Science Park.

Value

During field trips to Kanza Education and Science Park, students are able to fully comprehend the connection between renewable energy sources and electrical distribution. The turbine also generates power, allowing the school district to earn credit that offsets the power used in their other educational facilities.
