Project Detail
Site design for substation projects

Challenge
Bartlett & West worked on two substation projects adjacent to the Panasonic site in De Soto, Kansas. One of those substation pads was just under nine acres and served Panasonic. Bartlett & West needed to work closely with Evergy, Panasonic’s civil engineers and the developer’s surveyor to design the site so that it worked within the overall site design of Panasonic's campus. Bartlett & West also lead the site design on a second 35-acre substation that will serve the surrounding community.
Solution
Both substations include topographic and boundary surveying, site design, stormwater management, landscape design, site planning, cost estimating and construction administration. The larger substation included 1,400 linear feet of access drive.
Value
Throughout the design process, Bartlett & West worked closely with Evergy and their contractors to identify the most cost-effective site design. Site grading is very important and can have a large impact on construction costs, especially on substation pads that are more than 10 acres in size. Bartlett & West can bring value to these large projects with our years of experience with side grading and analyzing cut fill.
